Slate Sculpture

Known for its durability and attractive colour, Welsh slate infuses character into sculpture. Organic in shape and texture, Slate designs look particularly charming in natural, outdoor spaces amongst wild planting. The colour will change in the rain, from a warm grey to heather-like purple.

Slate sculpture questions

Natural slate from Welsh slate mines is a hardy material. Traditionally used for dry stone walls, the natural stone will happily withstand the elements. Some slates do not freeze well, but this is not the case with the Welsh slate used by David Harber which can withstand temperatures below zero.

Slate sculptures can be cleaned by a good hose down and a rub with a stiff brush, making them easy to maintain.

The organic and natural character of slate lends itself to many places within a garden design. It can be used as a charming focal point at the end of a pathway or as garden art within wild, naturalistic planting. Our Dark Planet Fountain sphere sculpture makes for an alluring centrepiece within an existing pond or pool, even more so when raised onto a plinth. The water cascades down the face changing the grey colour of the slate to deep purple.
