Liberty Center

Ohio, USA

The Liberty Center is mixed use development outside Cincinnati, Ohio. It contains retail, dining, and entertainment units, as well as residential areas and public spaces. As part of their strong commitment to immersive and experiential design, they commissioned five very different David Harber pieces to surprise and delight visitors.

Design details

Close-up of the stainless steel armillary sphere sundial at Liberty Center, engraved with its name and coordinates. The shiny surface and reflections enhance the clear, detailed text on this striking feature.

The client, Steiner & Associates, felt David Harber’s reflective, tactile pieces could deliver the engaging experiences that Liberty Center hoped to provide for its visitors. We discussed their ethos and took them through our portfolio of classic sculptures to discover which pieces best fitted their brief.

They chose five sculptures in total. To entertain visitors during the day, a custom wall-mounted sundial and a child-friendly Chalice water fountain, plus an Armillary Sphere for education and a stainless-steel Torus for photographs and fun. At night, enchantment would be provided by the arresting Dark Planet with its primeval inner glow.

A shiny armillary sphere stainless steel sundial at Liberty Centre stands outdoors at sunset, its interlocking rings and arrow glowing in soft orange and pink light, with trees outlined against a blurred background of greenery and benches.
Close-up of a pile of brown, flat stones, each lightly dusted with frost. Sunlight highlights the frosty crystals, reminiscent of the textured surface of the Dark Planet stone contemporary sculpture at Liberty Center.
