Vive la France

A special Verdigris Mantle Sphere designed as a water feature to commemorate the dead and captivate the living. Its position in the garden draws the viewer’s eye to the impressive mountain range in the distance, the gaps in the petals revealing the landscape beyond, and the elegant cascade of water subtly introduces a gentle undercurrent of energy to the sculpture’s surroundings.

When dusk falls, lighting illuminates the piece allowing maximum visibility and impact not only in the garden, but from the house too.

Design details

A round water feature stands in a pool in a landscape garden with a view of mountains in the distance.

Discovery

Walking around the stunning gardens and grounds gave David the opportunity to learn the poignant origin of the client’s interest in our work. He intended to commission the sculpture as a memorial to his mother. He had discovered she had been a long-standing admirer of David Harber, and was particularly fond of our Mantle design.

Design

We transformed our Mantle into a water feature. Positioned in the centre of an existing pool, surrounded by formal hedging, and became a focal point for the Château. LED lighting at night illuminates the moving water and creates dramatic reflections in the pool.

Development

By elevating the Mantle onto a bronze hourglass plinth, the sculpture could be enjoyed from every floor in the house, and become an intriguing visible and physical destination in the garden.
