Design details
For intimate spaces and courtyard gardens, Stainless Steel Water Wall can elevate a space without dominating it. Enjoy the sight and soothing sound of flowing water during the day, and watch as the water becomes more bewitching at night with the addition of LED lights.
Introducing water into an outdoor space is beneficial for you and your garden. As well as boosting wellbeing, the sound of a cascading water wall will help minimise any noise coming from outside your garden walls and can attract wildlife into urban spaces.
Stainless Steel water wall has been used in a several bespoke designs, including this incredible series of five walls which lead to a historic gazebo-like structure at the top of the hill.
Product information
Our water walls can be set up in various ways depending upon whether a reservoir tank or basin is supplied with the piece. The water wall stands on a support in the reservoir tank or basin and water circulates with the use of a pump. Tanks can be supplied with the ability to connect to a water top up and contain a drain and overflow for safety and ease of maintenance. Softened water should be used to avoid any issue with limescale build up.
Generally, there are three ways our water walls can be installed and set up. This is dependent upon the overall look you would like to achieve, together with what the site actually allows for. Water walls should be positioned against a wall to give better stability overall.
1. Place the piece on a support and use a below ground reservoir tank, which requires an excavated smooth and level foundation pad.
2. Place the piece on a support and use a polished, clad, or painted above ground reservoir tank which requires a smooth and level foundation pad or terrace. These are typically used where large excavation is difficult.
3. Place the piece on a support above an existing pool or pond of clean and filtered water. The pump simply draws water from the pool or pond and recirculates it.
For options 1 and 2 above, provision for a conduit (to provide power to the water pump, filter, and water feature lights) and a water feed need to be made in the foundation.
Installation and delivery are included in the price for UK commissions, and overseas shipping quotes can be obtained and charged at cost.
At David Harber we can provide a variety of filtration and maintenance solutions depending on your own installation and budget. A detailed Maintenance Manual will be provided at installation and is also available on request. It is however essential that chlorinated water is not used with bronze water features. The levels of chlorine in domestic tap water are however fine.
Yes, if the water feature is crafted from a high-quality stainless steel. Stainless steel fountains intended for outdoor use need to be hard-wearing and corrosion resistant, so we recommend marine-grade stainless steel. However, if your sculpture will live in an outdoor space near the sea, you will need duplex grade stainless steel to minimise any additional corrosion from salt water.
Stainless steel is the hardest material we work with, and if looked after will last a lifetime. Aside from durability, a stainless steel outdoor water feature is a beautiful solution for bringing light and reflection into your garden, and a large number of our clients choose to make their stainless-steel sculpture even more unique with a bespoke engraving.
Use warm, clean water and a soft cloth to gently wipe away any detritus on the surface, and then polish with a clean, dry cloth to retain its shine. Avoid harsh chemical solutions and abrasive material as these will scratch and damage the finish.
Maintaining a stainless-steel water feature is simple, because unlike bronze or Corten steel, it doesn’t develop a natural patina over time. A large part of maintaining water features is consistency. We recommend cleaning your stainless-steel sculpture regularly to keep the piece looking its best all year round.
As well as being an attractive garden decoration, the sight and sound of flowing water is proven to improve general wellbeing, and installing a large stainless-steel water feature in your garden would expose you to those benefits every day. Other benefits depend on your chosen water feature:
- Water walls are space saving, will hide unsightly boundaries, and the cascading water is a striking solution for minimising traffic noise.
- Natural stone water features are beautiful in small courtyards filled with planters.
- Large stainless-steel water fountains with LED lights extend the sensory benefits experienced in the day into the night and will give your garden a sense of drama and atmosphere.
- Large gardens with existing garden ponds or pools often benefit from a large stainless-steel water feature to create a focal point and provide some artistic reflection within the larger landscape design.
