Zabeel Park

Zabeel Park Sculpture Trail, Dubai

One of the largest public parks in the Middle East, Zabeel Park was opened to the public in 2005. Our sculptures for the park were commissioned by landscape architects AlKhatib Cracknell.

As this was one of our earlier installations in the Middle East, we researched thoroughly the conditions the sculptures would need to withstand in this part of the world.

Design details

The first piece we created was a large sundial to satisfy the clients sculptural and educational needs. The second piece was a spiralling cone to draw the eye to the ever-evolving Dubai skyline. And the final piece was chess-inspired giant cube sculpture, comprising 384 panels of interwoven copper and mirror-polished stainless steel.

The Cube Contemporary Sculpture at Zabeel Park in Dubai is a large metallic cube with a chequered pattern, balanced on one corner above a shallow rectangular pool, surrounded by palm trees and a landscaped walkway under a clear blue sky.
A shiny stainless steel rocket sculpture with a spiraling cone draws the eye upward, echoing the ever-evolving Dubai skyline at Zabeel Park Sculpture Trail. Sunlight sparkles on its surface, while blurred palm fronds and blue sky hint at a warm, outdoor setting.
A large stainless steel armillary sphere, reminiscent of a sundial at Zabeel Park Sculpture Trail, stands on a fountain base among palm trees, small green bushes, a bench, and wide grassy lawns under a clear sky. The sphere features intersecting silver rings.

A team from the workshop travelled to Dubai to manage the installation and alignment of the sculptures and sundial using local contractors.  Our sculptures have stood the test of time and are still very much a feature and part of the identity of Zabeeel Park.
