Starburst
Harwell Science Park, Oxfordshire, England
Starburst captures the explosion of energy from a splitting atom. The golden radiating spikes of the exploding nucleus are dramatic yet delicate and made of a lightweight material supported in a stainless-steel ring.
It’s a captivating focal point and an iconic meeting place on the science campus, and is designed to represent the cutting-edge scientific research for which Harwell Science Park is renowned.

Discovery
We felt delighted to have the opportunity to develop a concept sculpture which resonated with our design ethos. At David Harber we aspire to draw inspiration from physical phenomena, and concepts of space and time. So this felt like a natural fit.

Development
Elevated in an elegant cradle inferring a field of energy surrounding the exploding nucleus the piece was dramatically up lit. Observers were encouraged to walk beneath and observe its full impact.
