Quill
Inspired by Mediterranean pencil pines, Quill is a tall, silent sentry in the landscape. Its delicate structure is fashioned from dozens of interconnected petals, individually cut from bronze, mirror-polished stainless steel or oxidised steel, and precision-welded together by our skilled craftsmen. Subtle internal lighting brings this elegant, freestanding garden sculpture to life at night.

Design details
“We’re thrilled with our Quill sculpture. Thanks for all your help in getting this lovely gift to us.”

For a more modern garden sculpture, consider the stainless-steel Quill, which has a powder-coated interior. Here, red paint has been chosen for maximum contrast, creating a dramatic effect in this narrow atrium.
Quill’s small footprint maximises the impact of smaller spaces by encouraging you to look skywards.
The shape of Quill’s laser-cut petals can be either lenticular or ovoid, bringing movement and a natural variation to this striking piece of garden art. The petals spiral outwards to form a web of delicate folioles inspired by the natural patterns spontaneously formed by the forces of the physical world.
The bronze Quill’s interior is finished with 24-carat gold leaf, which glows as bright on a cloudy day as it does when the sun shines. Paired with the textural verdigris patina, this glowing statement of luxury British craftsmanship will embellish outdoor spaces of all sizes.
“Everything turned out perfectly, and WE LOVE THE QUILL!”
Client, USA
Discreet LED lighting illuminates the interior of the piece, transforming Quill into a glowing lantern to be enjoyed at night.
Oxidised Quill emphasises the beauty of the metal art and works with the surrounding environment – its rusty, chestnut-hued patina responding to rain and bright sunlight in unique, artful ways.
Product information
Quill is supplied with a baseplate. The client will need to provide a smooth and level stone or concrete pad positioned just below ground level to attach this plate to. Stainless steel bolts are then resin fixed into holes and drilled into the stone or concrete pad, to provide a secure fixing. It is possible to supply Quill with an LED light for which an electrical supply will need to emerge up through the centre of the concrete pad. We supply the driver for the LED lighting.
Installation and delivery are included in the price for UK commissions, and overseas shipping quotes can be obtained and charged at cost.
The finishes will exhibit some natural weathering with age. However, periodic cleaning will help preserve its beauty. We would recommend that it be cleaned at least once a year, but only with warm water and a soft cloth to remove any detritus. Use of any abrasive cleaner will damage the finish and must be avoided.
The interior gilding should be washed gently with a garden hose; a high-pressure hose should be avoided at all costs. Maintenance instructions will be issued on installation.
Geometric or organic sculptures are the most popular abstract garden sculptures for outdoor spaces. They stimulate emotional, intellectual, and sensory responses, transforming outdoor spaces into dynamic and interactive cultural landscapes. Geometric sculpture focuses on clean lines and basic, recognisable shapes. Organic sculpture draws inspiration from nature, with fluid, curved forms. The style you choose should reflect your personal style and the space the art sculpture inhabits. Find out more about The Role of Abstract Sculpture.
Unlike traditional garden statues or garden ornaments, such as gnomes, abstract sculpture is an elevated form of garden decor that prompts a more emotional, intellectual response from those who interact with it. Choosing abstract garden sculpture can feel daunting at first, but consider how you want the piece to make you feel as well as the mood and atmosphere you’re trying to create in the space. Size, material and placement are all important considerations.
Metal garden sculptures, such as stainless steel, bronze and oxidised steel, or natural stone sculptures made from slate, marble or pebbles, are both excellent choices for outdoor garden sculptures and exterior wall art.
