Stand for Chelsea Flower Show 2023

David Harber's RHS Chelsea stand MA336 this year is inspired by the change in our relationship with outdoor space since Chelsea last shut its doors — whether working from home and finding new appreciation for the beauty outside, or moving house for a larger garden or for increased access to the outdoors. The stand has been sponsored by world-renowned luxury real estate provider Savills, and by Nicholsons, the Cotswold-based, highly regarded garden design practice.

Nicholsons are also our planting partners for the stand. Liz Nicholson explains the thinking behind the design of an ‘artist's studio’ and its surrounds: “the show garden was designed as an inspiration to encourage people to work from home in green spaces for creative thought and mental wellbeing and most importantly reduce the commute to help protect our planet”.

The environmental ethos of David Harber and its partners is demonstrated in the show garden by the use of UK sourced stone and home grown plants.

New Sentinel sculpture in Welsh slate

The new importance of a calm, beautiful space outside the home highlights the role of outdoor sculpture to add focus and character. The sculptures David Harber is exhibiting this year show just how different are the styles that individual sculptures bring to a garden.

On our stand this year, David Harber is introducing his newest trio of sculptures. Slate Sentinel is a strong, upright form in organic looking Welsh slate which will stand guard as a reassuring presence near the front of the stand; the dramatic Orbis sculpture, originally designed for last year's cancelled Chelsea show, is a lively central focus; while the Turbine indoor sculpture, with its painted stainless steel blades set against a crisp white board, excites interest but also fits into most settings. The blades are arranged in such a way that light, shadow and reflection shift back and forth depending on the viewing angle.

Also on show will be the relaxing, gently swaying leaf sculpture Quiver; Steel Breeze whose intense reflections almost but not quite merge with its surroundings in an engagingly mystifying fashion; and a stunning selection of other sculptures, sundials and water features from our Classic collection.
