Bespoke Sculpture for RAF Brize Norton

RAF Brize Norton, the RAF‘s largest aircraft base, has commissioned a bespoke sculpture to celebrate its 80^th anniversary. The sculpture was unveiled in October 2017 by former Station Commander, Air Commodore (Ret‘d) Jonathan Ager and Flight Sergeant Emily Young, an Air Cadet from No. 2267 (Brize Norton) Squadron.

The creative brief was to design and make a unique sculpture depicting RAF Brize Norton's global importance as a transport hub to and from operations worldwide.

Called the Gate Guardian, the sculpture is a sphere of latitude and longitude lines – representing the earth – with four of Brize Norton's key aircraft types flying out from the globe to represent the strategic global importance of the aircraft base.
