Landscape sculpture for private island

David Harber has installed the Ortus (Latin for sunrise) custom landscape sculpture at a private island off the South Coast of England.

The sculpture is an evolution of David Harber's iconic Torus, but with a striking 3.25 metre iris of irregular verdigris copper pipe, suspended within a marine grade stainless steel ring.

Each morning, the sunrise is captured through the hole in the Ortus, appearing through a kaleidoscope of copper branches. This effect is achieved by rotating the landscape sculpture each evening, guided by an accurate compass plate alongside, to align it with the point on the horizon where the sun will rise the next day.
