David Harber bespoke wall art commission

The brief for Gabriel Square, St Albans, was to create a piece of wall art that enhanced the scheme and uplifted the aesthetic tone of the area, as well as making a connection to the name of the development which was inspired by the Gabriel Bell.

David Harber sought to express the resonance and radiance that emanate from a ringing bell, and to use it as a metaphor for sharing energy and vitality among the people who hear it.

This concept afforded a rich link to the history of the public square: a place where paths cross, experiences collide and the bustle of everyday life occurs.

The design is dynamic and elegant, reminiscent of octaves emerging from a hollow metallic shell.

Visually and metaphorically, the piece is a signal for the people of St Albans to come together. The piece is 10.8 metres long and will be installed in 2017.
